Prithvi Shaw has made headlines again for the wrong reasons. The opening batter was dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for their third-round match against Tripura. The Mumbai Cricket Association did not mention the reason for the change in the squad in their statement while announcing 29-year-old left-handed opening batter Akhil Herwadkar as his replacement.  

While Prithvi Shaw did not start the season on a high, managing a string of low scores, it has come to light that the India opener was dropped due to fitness and disciplinary issues.  

Prithvi Shaw did not attend the team's training sessions regularly, according to news agency PTI. The flamboyant batter was also found a "little overweight" and has been advised to work on his fitness for the next couple of weeks.  

"You have to look at his fitness and his running when he is on the field. The MCA has a rich history and there cannot be exceptions for a certain player," the news agency quoted a Mumbai Cricket Association Official.  

Prithvi was dismissed for 1 in the first innings of Mumbai's home game against Maharashtra. However, he scored an unbeaten 39 in the second innings, playing a part in their first win of the season.  

Against Baroda in Vadodara, Prithvi Shaw managed just 7 and 12 as the defending champions slumped to a season-opening defeat. Prithvi, nonetheless, was in good form in the Irani Cup, hitting a match-winning 76 in the second innings against Rest of India in Lucknow. Prithvi did struggle in the County Championship, managing just 71 runs across six innings for Northants.  

Prithvi Shaw played a key role for Mumbai last season and accumulated 451 runs across 9 innings, with an average of 83.52 and a strike rate of 58.5.  

Prithvi is no stranger to controversy. One of the most notable incidents is the "selfie controversy" where Shaw was accused of assault by a social media influencer, Sapna Gill, after he refused to take additional selfies at a nightclub in Mumbai.  

This incident escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the influencer and her friends vandalising Shaw's friend's car with baseball bats. Gill accused Shaw and his friends of physical abuse, while Shaw claimed he was being harassed. 

Another significant controversy involves a doping ban. In 2019, Shaw was suspended for eight months by the BCCI after his urine sample tested positive for terbutaline, a banned substance found in some cough syrups. Shaw claimed he had accidentally consumed the substance while treating a cold.
