Scientists sip the oldest water they have found on Earth.

Researchers found the oldest water on Earth and The wisest course of action, according to a scientist who discovered the oldest water ever found on Earth, was to drink it.

In 2016, while leading a group of geologists examining a mine in Canada Timmins, Ontario, Professor Barbara Sherwood Lollar made the astonishing finding.

Tests revealed that the flowing water, located approximately three kilometers below the surface, was the oldest water on Earth, dating back between 1.5 billion and 2.6 billion years.
Professor Sherwood Lollar stated, “People assume this water is just a small amount of water trapped in the rock when they think about it.”

However, it’s actually very much erupting directly at you. The water volume is significantly greater than anyone had predicted, and these things are gushing at rates of liters per minute.

She tasted the ancient water and declared it to be “much saltier than seawater” as well as “very salty and bitter.”

Sherwood Lollar remarked, “If you work with rocks as a geologist, you’ve probably licked a lot of rocks.”

By examining the sulphate content of the water, which indicates the composition of salts, her team also discovered the presence of life at one point in time.

“This has to be evidence that, on a geological timescale, organisms have existed in these fluids.”
