Researchers have determined the oldest age at which a person can survive.
The Netherlands-conducted research indicates that a female’s maximum ceiling life span is 115.7 years.
Even while it is slightly lower for men—114.1 years—that is still a very long time.
Statisticians from Erasmus Universities in Rotterdam and Tilburg analyzed data from 75,000 deaths in the Netherlands during the previous 30 years to reach this conclusion.
Medical Express quotes Professor John Einmahl, one of the three scientists who carried out the study, as saying:
“People live longer on average, yet during the past thirty years, the oldest among us have not become any older. This place undoubtedly has some sort of wall. The average life expectancy has grown, of course. However, there has been no modification to the upper limit.”
To be clear, lifespan—which is used to calculate how long a single person can live as long as they take care of themselves—is being discussed here, not life expectancy.
These results are consistent with a study done in America, where researchers found a comparable lifetime bracket.
It was shown that an individual’s maximum lifetime peaks in their nineties and is unlikely to rise over 115 years of age.
These figures are in stark contrast to the extraordinary 122-year life span of Frenchwoman Jeanne Louise Calment.
Born in 1875 and dying in 1997, the world record holder is the oldest person to have ever lived.
It remains to be seen if her accomplishment will ever be surpassed, but Einmahl hopes to publish his research in the coming month or so, which could hold the secret to a longer life.
In any case, it’s good to know that Oasis was lying when they said that “you and I will live forever.”
