To restore pH balance and get rid of any remaining pollutants, use a toner after washing, advises Jaiswal. She recommends exfoliating regularly. “To remove dead skin, exfoliate your skin. To keep your skin moisturized from the inside out, drink plenty of water throughout the day. Even on cloudy days, apply sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage,” she says.

Use a nourishing serum rich in vitamins and antioxidants to restore and revitalize your skin. Finally, use a light-textured but nourishing moisturizer to lock in moisture and keep your skin smooth and radiant throughout the day. To achieve and maintain your ideal glowing complexion, commit to this morning and night routine—consistency is essential.

What to avoid  

Few of us are aware that certain skincare routines can exacerbate dull skin. “Avoid using harsh cosmetics that strip your skin of its natural oils. Choose moisturizing and cleansing products with gentle ingredients instead of harsh ones. Don’t over-scrub your skin. Exfoliating can help, but it can also irritate your skin and make it worse,” Jaiswal advises. A healthy diet is important. “What you eat reflects your skin, so make sure you’re eating a balanced diet with plenty of nutrients to support healthy skin,” she adds.

According to Jaiswal, making a homemade face mask with natural ingredients, including vitamin C-rich oranges, is an excellent approach to combat dull skin. She offers a basic mask that you can use at home. Mash half an orange and mix it with a spoonful of honey. When you apply this mixture to your face, be careful not to get it in your mouth or eyes. Switch it off after 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse in warm water, she advises.

After cleansing your face, apply the mask generously and let it work its magic for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. The combination of ingredients will nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate your skin, leaving it renewed, radiant and ready for the day.

Other essentials  

But that’s not all. There are many simple yet powerful tips available to improve the overall glow of your skin. “Make sure you get enough rest. Your skin can look brighter as your body is able to repair and regenerate,” adds Jaiswal. Green tea is another suggestion. According to research, green tea improves the appearance of skin and helps protect against sun damage.

You should also apply a vitamin C serum to brighten and protect your skin from external stressors,” she adds.
