We all know that spending our days at a desk can be detrimental to our health, causing everything from weak glutes to anxiety and depression.
However, did you realize that it can also damage your penis?
It turns out that the male genitalia can suffer a lot from poor posture
We understand you’re wondering what the real consequences of slouching are. In short, it can lead to weak erections, erectile dysfunction and difficulty reaching any kind of climax.
Metro.co.uk spoke to GP Dr Jeff Foster, a men’s health specialist, about the side effects of poor posture – and how to rectify the health issues that could already be presenting if you’re a serial sloucher…
What is poor posture?
With many of us hunched over phones and iPads, carrying bulky bags and hunched over computers, poor posture is a common occurrence.
Dr. According to Foster, reports Metro.co.uk, rounded shoulders, a hunched back and a head tilted slightly forward or backward are also common signs of poor posture.
Poor posture can also be indicated by a bulging belly. Pelvic floor muscles can become weak and stiff due to poor posture.
These are the muscles that support the colon and bladder in your pelvis. Poor posture can also affect nerve function.
What are the effects of poor posture on your penile health?
The pelvic floor muscles are connected to your core muscles through slouching and hunching, and this increased pressure causes the pelvic floor muscles to become “tight and weak.”
“Due to tight pelvic floor muscles, these muscles can weaken the male genitalia, which can lead to decreased sexual stamina (including a weak erection) and ejaculation, which can lead to an overall weak arousal,” Dr. Foster explains.
Pelvic floor muscle problems can lead to pelvic floor organ problems, which can cause pressure in the penis and scrotal region, pain when using the toilet, and leakage of urine.
Plus, you may find it harder and less enjoyable to get an erection climax, if you’re able to climax at all.
In fact, there’s some data that suggests poor posture can lower energy levels and leave you feeling tired all over.
“As a result, you may be less likely to get an erection, which may reduce the likelihood of sexual arousal.”
How to prevent poor posture affecting your penis
The key here is to align your spine and pelvic muscles to improve blood flow to your penis.
‘Getting the spine in a neutral position is important here,’ Dr Foster explains. ‘To get into a good standing posture, stand against a wall so that the back of your head, shoulder blades and bum touch the wall.
Shoes must be set back slightly from the wall. Place your hand on the back of your pelvis. If it’s easy for you to slide your hands, put your back slightly flat against the wall. You should have trouble fitting your hand into this opening.
You can also take care of your posture at your desk if your business requires you to sit for long periods of time.
“When sitting, make sure your feet are flat on the floor, your forearms are resting comfortably on your desk, and your screen is at eye level,” Dr. Foster advises.
Your pelvic muscles have to fight to improve your posture, which means they are being used more efficiently.
This can enable improved blood flow penis which means a greater chance of an erection, as erections occur when the penis is engorged by blood.’
