Years in the making, the Louisiana Lights: Where the Holidays Shine immersive light show is open for the holiday season, illuminating the historic Windrush Gardens at Burden Museum & Gardens.
In partnership with Visit Baton Rouge and other local sponsors, the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens and the LSU Rural Life Museum have created a luminous wonderland in hopes of making Baton Rouge a holiday tourist destination.
Jeff Kuehny, LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens director, and others envisioned this dream nearly five years ago. Once the pieces were in place, the display "took months to set up and complete", said Caleb Livergood, an LSU AgCenter Burden student worker.
The magical forest stroll begins behind the Rural Life Museum and winds through the Windrush Gardens, separated into interconnected garden "rooms" decorated with artistic uses of lights and music.
The Lakeside Stroll is another moment to look forward to with multicolor lighting set on islands in the water, which creates a mirror image for the camera. Finally, Crepe Myrtle Alleè, a tunnel of light, adds charm to the romantic stroll and creates a photo opportunity not to be missed.
The AgCenter Botanic Gardens team designed the path to be accessible for young and old alike to bring out the Christmas child in everyone. Families of all ages can "ooh" and "aah" over the holiday spectacular.
