It was inevitable. A show as iconic as ‘Mirzapur’ was destined to have a grand theatrical release. Mirzapur: The Film has officially been announced, with producer Farhan Akhtar confirming long-standing rumors about the hit series’ transition to the big screen.
Akhtar, also co-producer of the show, shared an announcement video on Instagram featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu. True to Mirzapur’s signature style, they hinted that the gripping drama will now unfold in theaters, requiring fans to experience the action outside their living rooms.
The video hints at Divyenndu’s return and also includes Abhishek Banerjee. While the full cast remains under wraps, it’s likely the original actors will reprise their iconic roles. Earlier speculation suggested Hrithik Roshan might take on the role of Kaleen Bhaiya, though the filmmakers have yet to confirm.
This film announcement follows three successful seasons of the Amazon Prime Video series. The show debuted in 2018 and gained an instant cult following, with a second season airing during the pandemic and the much-anticipated third season premiering earlier this year.
Talking about taking the series to the big screen, Producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar of Excel Entertainment told the media, “It is a landmark milestone for us to bring the quintessential Mirzapur experience to our audiences, yet again, but this time on the big screen.
Over the course of three successful seasons, this acclaimed franchise has struck all the right chords with fans through its powerful storytelling and memorable characters – from the likes of Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, and Munna Bhaiya, to name a few.
