The latest media reports suggest that both the actors have liked the idea of Ghajini 2 and have agreed to work on the second film in the franchise simultaneously.  

Neither of the actors is interested in going for a remake, and therefore, the talks are on about shooting Ghaijini 2 together and releasing both versions on the same day. 

promoting his latest film, Kanguva, he mentioned that producer Allu Aravind had recently cracked the idea of the second film in the franchise, and he quite liked it. 

He said, "Ghajini 2 was, actually, surprising that you asked me now. After a long time, Allu Aravind came up with that idea (for a sequel) and asked if that would be possible.  

The report further quoted a source close to the production mentioning that even Aamir has been working with Allu Aravind for some time to develop Ghajini 2.  

The source added, "With things going Pan India, remakes of cult films with popular stars are a thing of the past now. Both Suriya and Aamir Khan are excited by the idea of Ghajini 2, but don’t want the remake tag on their film.  

They are also concerned that the film arriving first will take away the novelty factor and conveyed their concerns to the producers.  

The Tamil version of Ghajini, starring Suriya and Asin, was released in 2005. Aamir's Ghajini, which was also a box office success, hit the screens in 2008.
