Pokemon: Ranking 10 Poke Ball, from worst to best

We spend a lot of time choosing our Pokémon team and personalizing each one’s traits and abilities, but often we forget about the most important step in the process: actually catching the creature. Trainers can choose from a wide range of Poké Balls to capture their potential companions, and there are differing opinions about which Poké Ball is best for certain situations.

Some people choose a ball that matches the color of the Pokemon they’re trying to catch, others choose something stable and reliable, while others simply choose something with the best catch rate.

We’ve decided to end the debate once and for all by evaluating each of the 32 different Poké Balls released in the main Pokémon games, series, considering their general design, utility, and power.

Each Poké Ball is ranked from worst to best

1. Poké Ball
   The simplest and most commonly accessible choice for trainers is the traditional Poké Ball. It’s perfect for early-game catches and normal Pokemon because of its 1x catch rate. Its limited functionality, which sometimes requires multiple attempts, is evident when trying to catch difficult or rare Pokémon.
2. Premier Ball
   Premier Balls have the same capture rate (1x) as regular Poké Balls and are awarded as a bonus for purchasing ten normal Poké Balls. It is more of a collector’s piece than a useful accessory due to its distinctive white design.
3. Grand Ball
   With a 1.5x catch rate, the Great Ball is an improvement over the normal Poké Ball and gives a clear boost to catching somewhat stronger Pokémon. This is a reliable choice when you encounter early game Pokemon in the middle of the game that are more challenging to catch.
4. Excellent ball
   The capture rate of the Luxury Ball is the same as the Poké Ball (1x), so it’s not that significant. On the other hand, it makes the Pokémon that are caught with it happy more quickly, which makes it useful for evolving certain species that require a high level of friendship.
5. Ultra Ball
   With a 2x capture rate, the Ultra Ball provides a significant improvement and is one of the most reliable options for catching uncommon or high-level Pokemon. When they are available, they are a popular choice among trainers because they strike a balance between availability and effectiveness.
6. Evening ball
   When used in caverns or at night, Dusk Ball has a 3.5x catch rate, making it highly successful in certain situations. This means it offers a better capture rate than normal and great balls, making it an important tool for trainers heading into dark terrain or night hunters.
7. Ball net
   Net Ball performs exceptionally well, catching three times as many Water and Bug-type Pokemon. Instructors focusing on these specific species will find it a flexible tool, as these types are common in many different areas. Outside of these ranges, its performance declines, but it still dominates its field.
8. Scuba ball
   The Dive Ball, which is specifically made to catch Pokemon found underwater or while fishing, has a 3.5x higher catch rate under certain conditions. Due to its specific application, it is very efficient in aquatic settings but less so in them.
9. Ball timer
   The longer the battle goes on, the more efficient the timer ball becomes; After 10 turns, his capture rate can increase by 4 times. As such, it’s a great choice for battling stubborn Pokemon, giving patient trainers a tactical edge.
10. Fast ball
    Trainers who want to capture Pokemon quickly can use Quick Ball, which has a 5x capture rate when used at the start of a battle. This is especially useful for quickly completing Pokédex entries and catching weak or low-level Pokémon.
